DOUBLE CLUTCH

Terms of use.

The ground rules for our enthusiast marketplace.

Last updated: 6 October 2026

1. Our role

These terms govern your use of Double Clutch, a UK classifieds platform where private sellers advertise cars and buyers contact them directly. By using the platform you agree to these terms.

We provide listings and messaging only. Double Clutch is not a dealer, broker or party to any vehicle sale. We do not hold or process purchase payments, provide escrow, inspect vehicles, verify ownership or guarantee a listing’s accuracy, a vehicle’s condition or a user’s identity. A listing appearing on the site is not an endorsement. Any purchase agreement is solely between buyer and seller.

2. Accounts and seller responsibilities

Keep your account details accurate, protect your password and tell us if you suspect unauthorised access. You are responsible for content you post and messages you send.

Only advertise a car you own or are authorised to sell. Give accurate, current details about the vehicle, price, mileage, condition, history and known issues. Use photos you have permission to publish that fairly represent the vehicle. Correct misleading information promptly and remove a listing when the car is no longer available. Do not misrepresent a trade sale as a private sale. Sellers and buyers remain responsible for their own legal obligations and checks.

You retain rights in your content and give us permission to host, display and process it as needed to operate the platform. Do not upload another person’s private information without a lawful basis.

3. Prohibited conduct and moderation

Fake, stolen, misleading or duplicate deceptive listings, scams, impersonation, fraud, spam, harassment, threats, unlawful content and abusive or discriminatory messages are prohibited. Do not use the platform to obtain money or personal information dishonestly, evade restrictions or interfere with its security.

We may review reports, remove or restrict listings and suspend or ban accounts where we reasonably believe these terms have been breached, users are at risk or the law requires it. We may preserve relevant records and cooperate with lawful requests from authorities. We do not promise to review every listing or message. For questions about a moderation decision, contact hello@doubleclutch.co.uk.

4. Staying safe when buying

  • View the car in person and meet the seller before agreeing to buy.
  • Check the V5C registration certificate against the vehicle and seller’s details. A V5C is not proof of ownership.
  • Run an HPI check to look for outstanding finance, theft records, write-offs and other history concerns.
  • Never pay a deposit to someone you have not met.
  • Do not send money by unusual methods, such as cryptocurrency, gift cards or money-transfer requests from strangers.
  • Consider an independent inspection and be cautious of pressure, unusually low prices or excuses to avoid a viewing.

These precautions reduce risk but cannot eliminate it. You are responsible for your checks and payment arrangements.

5. Availability and liability

We aim to keep the platform available but cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access. To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for losses caused by inaccurate user content, vehicle defects, third-party conduct or a sale agreed between users, except where those losses result from our own breach of a legal duty.

We are responsible for foreseeable loss or damage caused by our breach of these terms or failure to use reasonable care and skill, but not for loss that was not reasonably foreseeable. For consumers, we do not exclude statutory rights. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. If you use the platform for business purposes, we are not liable for indirect loss or loss of profit, revenue or business opportunity to the extent permitted by law.

6. Changes, law and contact

We may update these terms and will show the revised date on this page. Material changes will be brought to users’ attention where appropriate. These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Consumers retain any mandatory protections and rights to bring proceedings in the courts of the UK country where they live.
